What to know for member only night from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. on Friday 3/16:

  • No scanning devices allowed – please keep your phones and any bar code scanning devices away from the items for sale (member night only).
  • One membership per person allows the purchase of up to 35 items at the member only night. You can buy as much as you want on Saturday and Sunday!
  • You will show your Friends of The Seattle Public Library membership card (Library cards do not count) when you purchase your items.
  • If you want to “share” your 35 items with a friend or relative you can.
  • A membership desk will be set up outside the sale for membership inquires or for purchasing memberships.
  • Memberships at the door will cost $40 per membership. Memberships purchased in advance by March 15 will be $20.
  • Once you become a member a special member card for the sale will be mailed to you.  Memberships bought after 3/8/18 will have the member card held at the member desk Friday March 16th.  Please pick up at the door.
  • You can purchase memberships online or stop by the FriendShop at the Central Library.

Volunteer Central: Book Sales and Sorting

Thanks for your interest in volunteering as a book sorter.  Currently, we have filled all of our volunteer slots at our sorting facility and have a large waiting list.  Please check back in the future to see if we need more volunteers at that time.  You might also consider applying as a volunteer at our Friendshop in the Central Library.  For information about that opportunity, please click here.

Sorting Facility Directions

Books for Teachers

Since 2009, the Friends of the Seattle Public Library has been honored to receive annual grants from the Renee B. Fisher Foundation to provide classroom books for teachers in high-need (Title 1) Seattle public schools.  Through these grants, each teacher receives a $100 voucher to purchase books for their classrooms at the many Friends’ Book Sales.  So far, over 400 teachers from 35 schools have been given nearly 29,700 books new homes in their Seattle classrooms, ranging from K – 12.  In 2016, the Friends distributed over $9000 in teacher vouchers.  The total distribution through 2016 was over $22,000.
